Founded in 1886, the buzzing city has had a long, winding history that has shaped Johannesburg into the the city that it is today – the city of fortune and opportunities.

As the heart of South Africa, Johannesburg is also home to many iconic events in the country, namely the Rugby World Cup in 1995 and the FIFA Soccer World Cup just to name a few. With moments like this, it’s impossible not to be attracted to the City of Johannesburg.

About the City of Johannesburg EMS Bursary Programme
The City of Johannesburg has been in works with a policy entitled “The Youth Development Policy and Strategy” for quite some time. The purpose behind the formation of this policy is to bring out the potential of their local communities by supporting them through the government’s available resources and financial funding.

Joining hands with the Emergency Management Services, also known as EMS, the Johannesburg government is granting bursaries to 20 Johannesburg youths who have shown outstanding studious capacities. Grantees awarded with this bursary will be entitled to an all-expenses paid tuition and registration fees, as well as coverage of their prescribed learning materials.

The bursary caters to undergraduate students who are attaining: 1) a National Diploma in Fire Technology at the University of Technology; 2) a Bachelors Degree in Emergency Medical Care at the University of Johanesburg, and; 3) a National Diploma in Emergency Medical Care at the University of Johanesburg.

  • Holding a valid South African citizenship
  • Must be of 17-25 years old
  • Is physically healthy to partake their studies
  • Has an astounding academic track record – at least a D grade in the subjects of Mathematics and Science
  • Able to show proof of financial assistance (e.g. has a household income of less than R15,000)
  • Is responsible for their tertiary education
  • Capable enough to pursue their studies at any of the two chosen institutions.
